Mexican Studio Fernando Romer Enterprise FR-EE, led by Fernando Romero, will be designing one of the world’s earliest Hyperloop high-speed transportation lines, in Mexico. The team was among 10 winners of the Hyperloop One Global Challenge to design Hyperloop corridors worldwide. The winners will be designing lines in the US, UK, Canada, India, and Mexico.

FR-EE will be collaborating with Hyperloop One to develop a network for the new Mexloop which is expected to revitalize the country’s economy and development. The corridor which they will be working on will connect Mexico’s metropolises by linking Mexico City to Guadalajara to create a “Megapolis”.  The specified region already houses a population of 45 million, and it is estimated to reach up to 60 million by 2050.

The Hyperloop will travel at a speed of 600 miles per hour (1,000 km/hr), and it will cover the distance between Mexico City and Guadalajara in 45 minutes. On its way, it will pass by the cities of Queretaro and Leon. The project is expected to reduce the traffic congestion in the capital city and its surroundings as well as create job opportunities.

Hyperloop is the brainchild of American Canadian entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX Elon Musk. He came up with the idea of the fan and magnet-based speeding capsule in 2013.

“The proposal takes an approach to locating stations and leveraging development to further diversify and strengthen its array of manufacturing and technology industries, reinforce its network of top universities and research and development centres, and create radically new opportunities for people to live, work, and be anywhere, in minutes,” explained FR-EE in a statement.

The winning proposal was supported by Mexico Construction Industry Chamber (CMIC) which has adopted it in its 2030 Infrastructure Plan.
