Two exhibitions are being held simultaneously at the Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin, from now till the 19th of October 2017. The first presentation, called “Space on Demand”, focuses on the methodology that Diller Scofidio + Renfro architectural firm follows through the investigation of “The Shed”.
“The Shed”, which is still under construction, was designed through the collaboration of the New York-based DS+R with the Rockwell Group. It is going to be the first center dedicated to several arts all at one place in New York. The project, which has a total area of 200,000 square feet, will produce and endorse all kinds of visual arts, performing arts, and popular culture.
The “Space on Demand” exhibition displays technical documentation, artifacts as well as various pieces of ephemera.
“The Shed” represents an “architecture of infrastructure” as it comprises a permanent base structure along with a telescopic outer shell which can be moved to the adjacent plaza. This design creates a modifiable hall of an area of 17,000 square feet. Also, the design helps control several parameters such as temperature, sound, and light.
The second exhibition “Relations” features the work of PAR (Platform for Architecture and Research firm). The founder of the LA-based firm, Jennifer Marmon, wishes to expand the firm’s discipline by questioning the limits and role of architecture and investigating global topics.
