ROCKii – City Cultural Center | J. Mayer H. Architects

ROCKii – City Cultural Center

ROCKii is a new cultural formation that balances the relationship between museum and library and between building and nature.

The Public Library & Fine Arts Museum in the Gateway Park in Taichung, Taiwan takes the disposition of two balancing rocks on top of each other that mediate between inside space and the ouside park and city scape. The lower rock houses the library.

The museum is situated in the upper rock. Both programmatic units have large high ceiling cuts through the volume to create central communal space from which each unit can be accessed and orientation is easy.
