Golden Bridge – Hands Down the Most Elegant Bridge in the World

Vietnam has become a travel destination for many tourists around the world. There is no shortage of tourist attractions in this wonderful country. Danang is known for its resort beaches, awesome Dragon Bridge, and the International Fireworks Festival. Also, in order to attract more tourists to this beautiful town, the Golden Bridge has recently been constructed.

The Ba Na mountain used to be the popular spot in the 1920s for French colonists. Their decayed homes are now visible from the higher points of Danang. Today the area is a major tourist attraction with cable cars, a replica French medieval village (with faux castle and cathedral), wax museum, and manicured gardens.

Standing 1400 meters above sea level, this bridge (also known as Cau Vang in Vietnamese) is part of a $2 billion investment to boost the tourism industry in the town of Danang. It offers visitors amazing views of the majestic Ba Na Hills and the countryside.

Wowing visitors with its elegant design, the Golden bridge looks like it has come straight out of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. It has a long gold walkway, seemingly held in place by a pair of giant stone hands. Purple Lobelia Crysanthemums line the walkway, curving along with the bridge. The 150-meter-long bridge is designed by TA Landscape Architecture.

The giant hands are representative of God “pulling a strip of Gold out of the land”. The giant hands give the visitors the impression of having been made of stone centuries ago. This increases the wow factor for all of those who walk on this unusual bridge, that took about a year to construct.
The skeleton of the hands was first designed and then covered with steel meshes. They were then finished with fiberglass, then the old and weathered effect was added to it.

The design is to make visitors feel like they are walking in the sky “among the foggy and fairy-like lands of Ba Na Mountain”, as stated by Vu Viet Anh, design principal at TA Landscape Architecture. However, what makes the bridge truly exceptional is none other than the giant stone hands supporting it and resembling the “hands of Gods pulling a strip of gold out of the land.”

According to the South China Morning Post, Anh said he is currently planning another project; a silver bridge representative of God’s strand of hair. This silver bridge will connect to the existing Golden bridge on the Ba Na Hills.
The Golden Bridge was opened to the public in June. If you feel like putting yourself in the hands of God as you step onto a footbridge, then head on over to Vietnam!
