CF Møller has lately revealed the renderings of ‘Storkeengen’ or the Stork Meadow in Randers town, Denmark. This comes after the firm has won the competition ‘the City to the Water’ which was held by the city’s municipality as a step towards protection against the change in climate. The stormwater solution will not only be linking Randers to Gudenå River to protect the area against flooding, but will be also transforming the surrounding meadows into a magnificent landscape for public recreation. In addition to the park, the public will be able to enjoy the views of nature while canoeing down the river stream.

The project is a perfect example of our holistic approach, whereby we combine climate protection with urban and nature development,” commented the associate partner and head of CF Møller, Lasse Vilstrup Palm. Storkeengen is the result of the collaboration between CF Møller Landscape and the construction engineering company, Orbicon.

Rainwater will be collected at Storkeengen via special pathways spread across the town which lies below the river level. Then, the collected water will be accumulated in specific reservoirs along the meadows to be finally poured into the river. As the project represents an important development for the town of Randers, it is regarded by the designers as an “architectural multi-tool” which “creates cloudburst and storm flood protection, strengthens urban nature and brings the town of even closer to the Gudenå River”.
