The biggest frame in the world was recently opened at Zabeel Park in Dubai, UAE. Dubai Frame is a remarkable project that provides the Emiratis with great views of the rising city and all its skyscrapers. The picture frame, which is 150-m-high, features a bridge that extends over a length of 93 m. The bridge has transparent walls through which the visitors can enjoy the magnificent views of Deira city as well as Zayed Road. Moreover, a brightly-colored passageway welcomes the public into an augmented reality display of Dubai’s past and present.
As if being the biggest frame in the world in not enough to be under the spotlight, a lawsuit was filed by Fernando Donis, who is an architect from Mexico, against the municipality of Dubai for stealing his design. Fernando Donis has won the contest to design the frame in 2009. Over 900 contestants have participated in the competition which was sponsored by the leading elevator company, ThyssenKrupp.
Soon after he was declared the winner, Donis was surprised to find himself discarded from the project, without being paid.
Dubai has counterclaimed these allegations and said that the designer didn’t have the licenses necessary for the project’s completion. The officials also emphasized on the 100,000-dollar-cheque the architect has gotten when he won the competition.
