Did you know that there are ancient pyramids other than those in Egypt?
The pyramids may be scattered in different regions around the world but they were built with no knowledge of each other. The architecture of the Pyramids never failed to challenge and baffle archeologists up to this day. Mexico and Sudan, in addition to Egypt, have pyramids that are somewhat different from each other.
How did these ancient civilizations manage to build such huge structures without using the sophisticated equipment we have today to build skyscrapers? That is an enigma.
As pointed by the infographic, presented by History.com and Column Five, the pyramids were not solely built as tombs for kings. They were also places of worship and stellar observation.
Things weren’t bright and sunny all the way long for kings who tried to eternalize themselves through the pyramids. Previous failures at building such structures in Egypt made King Snefru (father of King Khufu – owner of the Great Pyramid of Giza) succeed on his third attempt to build a pyramid at Dahshur. It is called the Red Pyramid and it is considered to be the first “true pyramid”.
