Designed by Haugen/Zohar Arkitekter, this tiny minimalist building represents the simple beauty of Scandinavian designs. Regarded as the newest Norway Landmark, the building known as Uredd Rest area has been completed.
Located along the Norwegian Scenic Route Helgelandskysten, “Ureddplassen” is a tourist destination which attracts both Norwegians and non-Norwegians every year.

Surrounded by captivating fjords and the Norwegian Sea, the site of the new Norway landmark represents a heaven for nature lovers. By defining a clear concrete edge, the project aims to mimic the existing nature and topographic landscapes of the city. The sculpted nature of the roof acts as a frame that accentuates the beauty of the natural setting.

The existing site had a historic value which gave it identity, the site was a war memorial for a submarine called “Uredd” which translates to fearless. Designed as a Norway landmark to attract tourists, the project includes public services such as toilets, a viewing deck, outdoor seatings and an amphitheater leading to the beach.

“The Uredd monument is re-established on the terrace and rebuilt with new marble plinth. The amphitheater is built of prefabricated steps mounted on a cast-concrete slab. The view from the steps is unique.” explains Haugen/Zohar Arkitekter.

“Between the terrace and county road 17, the asphalt surface is re-established for parking. Existing vegetation and pebble shoreline will be handled gently and protected or moved during construction and later re-established.Landscape work and vegetation is an important part of the architectural quality of the place and will be performed with care and precision.” states the Oslo-based architectural firm.
“From the concrete terrace, an amphitheater rolls down to the shoreline, making the shoreline accessible. On the terrace, a toilet is established, built with a concrete ceiling that waves up from the terrace’s surface.” adds the firm.
