Large-scale 3d-printing just opened up new doors in the world of furniture design. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, Ross Lovegrove, and Daniel Widrig, the new 3D-printed chairs are going to be on display in a pop-up showroom in Brera Design District. A new Spanish company, known as “Nagami”, is exhibiting the innovative series of 3d-printed chairs as a project titled “‘Brave new world: Re-thinking design and large-scale robotic 3D printing.’
‘We design products that until now were just waiting for the right technology to come to life,’ says Manuel Jimenez garcía, Miki Jimenez garcía and Ignacio Viguera Ochoa; Nagami’s founders, “Not only objects that you can hold, but also that you can feel and experience as part of your environment.’
The unique Zaha Hadid Bow and Rise chairs with their curvaceous Zaha-like geometries are the highlights of the project. The 3D-printed chairs were produced after a lot of research with 3D printing and material experimentation done by Zaha Hadid.Architects.
Their most unique feature is that they are not only biodegradable but also machine-optimized. Zaha Haid Architects’ 3d-printed chairs are also installed with something called pellet-extruder, so the chairs have plastic parts.
Another interesting piece in the series of 3D-printed chairs is designed by Ross Lovegrove. Known as “Robotica TM” this furniture piece merges between robotics and botany. It is a high-tech, multi-functional table which adapts to several uses.
Last but not least, Daniel Widrig’s 3D-printed item known as the black “Peeler” is designed according to the form of human body. This project cleverly used the process of additive manufacturing to produce 3D printed chairs made of 7mm thick shells in a few hours. Accordingly, the machine prints the chairs in a short amount of time and with minimal waste of materials.
